When you turn on your shower each morning, do you find that you have time to do all kinds of different things while you are waiting for the water to heat up? If so, you might be used to it if you have dealt with it for a long time, but have you ever wondered why this happens? There are several reasons it happens, but there are also ways you can fix this problem if you would rather have hot water right away.
Reasons it takes a while
There are two main reasons homeowners experience major delays with getting hot water, and one of the reasons is due to the location of the fixture in relation to the location of the hot water tank. If your hot water tank is right next to your shower, you would not have this problem, because the hot water would not have far to travel to get to your shower. The proximity of these two things right now, though, may be the reason you have to wait so long.
The other thing to realize is that hot water is not just sitting inside a pipe right by your fixture. Instead, it is in the hot water heater. Once you turn your hot water off in your shower, the hot water will be in the pipe leading up to the shower, but it will not stay hot for long. Instead, it cools down as it sits there. This is why you can turn on the shower right after shutting it off and find that hot water instantly comes out, but if you wait an hour to turn it back on, you would again have to wait for the hot water from the tank to reach this fixture in your house.
Ways to fix the issue
While there may be multiple ways to fix the problem, there are two main ones. The first is by installing an instantaneous hot water heater. This is one that provides instant hot water to the device it is tied to. The second option is through installing a recirculation pump system. With this, you would always have instant hot water with all your fixtures.
